Hugh Baird

Hugh Baird was born in Calderbank (Lanarkshire) on 14 March, 1930. He died on 19 June, 2006.
A prolific goalscoring centre forward, he joined Airdrieonians from Dalry Thistle in 1951 and scored well over 100 league goals for the Broomfield club, including an astonishing 53 in season 1954/55 as the team won promotion. A further 37 goals in the top division won him his single cap. Leeds United bought his services in the summer of 1957 but he returned to Scotland with Aberdeen 16 months later.
