John Gilchrist

John Wotherspoon Gilchrist was born in Glasgow on 30 March, 1899. He died in February, 1950. A creative right half, Gilchrist joined Celtic in 1919 from junior team St Anthony's, and was in the team that won the Scottish League in 1922. He was transferred to Preston North End in January 1923, but a disagreement within the club led to his departure for Carlisle United in January 1924. That summer he joined Third Lanark, but he later moved to the USA to play there.
