John Madden

John Madden was born in Dumbarton on 11th of June 1865. In his early life in Scotland he combined footballing with his job as a shipyard riveter.

Madden represented Scotland four times. On one of these occasions, versus Wales at Wrexham 1893, he became one of the few Scots to score four goals in an international match.

Madden was signed with Celtic and played in their first ever match in May 1888 and was part of the club's team squad which won three League Championships in the 1890s. He appeared in two Scottish Cup Finals - in 1887 and 1892 - for Celtic and Dumbarton respectively.
