Henry James Hall Marshall was born in Portobello (Midlothian) on 24 November, 1872. He died on 16 September, 1936.
Known as Beef, Marshall had an unusual second career for a footballer, as a hirer of boats from his base in Portobello. He began at St Bernards, then joined Heart of Midlothian in 1892, heading south to Blackburn Rovers later that year.
