Biography
Gary Thomson Gillespie was born in Bonnybridge on 5 July, 1960. A tall and cultured central defender, Gillespie showed his worth at an early age and was made captain of the Falkirk team when aged just 17, the youngest team captain Scottish football has ever known. It was no surprise that a bigger club came calling, and he joined Coventry City in the spring of 1978. He quickly established himself in the Coventry first team, as well as the Scotland Under 21 side, and left to join Liverpool.
