Scottish Football Facilities
Facilities play a fundamental part in the support and development of our national game. As the Scottish FA’s facilities strategy, The Big Pitch, states, it's ”where the game is played” and without these places to play our game would struggle to grow.
The Scottish FA therefore places great importance on the development of quality football facilities and the impact these have across the game, whether that be attracting children into the game for the very first time, right through to players in the professional ranks.
Facility development is a constant feature in the work of our regional teams and the Scottish FA’s Facilities Manager. They all work closely with clubs across the game as well as the Scottish Government, Scotland’s 32 local authorities and a range of other key stakeholders to ensure the ongoing development of facilities to support football.
Key contacts
Whether you have a simple question about pitch sizes or need of a more complex conversation on plans for a scale of football facility designed to support the longer term development of your club, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. This can be done in a number of ways.
Irrespective of your query, your first point of contact should always be your local Scottish FA Regional Office;
This will engage experienced regional staff from the outset, allowing them to check off a number of key points with you across areas including club background, structure and Quality Mark status. This enables a sound, initial assessment on the level of support that we can provide. As you might imagine, facilities development is a very popular area, so we need to have a clear way of quickly establishing the support we can offer from the very first conversation.
If for any reason you cannot reach your regional office or you feel it’s a more specific facilities question, you can contact the Scottish FA’s Facilities Manager directly.

Football Facility Guidance & Advice
As you might imagine, many of the questions we receive relate to topics including pitch types and dimensions, floodlights and the variety of changing accommodation. To ensure consistency in these areas, the Scottish FA works closely and shares intelligence with the national agency for sport, sportscotland, in developing a range of technical guidance and data-sheets across a range of football-related areas. You can find these under the following football facility topic headings.

Football Goals
Our experiences tell us that goals are an area that people don’t pay enough attention to. Many select the incorrect type of goal system for their primary environment, base their buying decision on price alone and without due consideration to quality of product. This can be a false economy over the longer term as selecting cheaper, lower quality models often leads to additional investment being required when these products fail and need to be replaced.
