Membership: Cumbernauld Colts
Cumbernauld Colts have a long history in the town and indeed were the new town’s first youth football club when they were formed in 1969.
The Club was the first in Scotland to achieve the Scottish FA Quality Mark Award Legacy/Platinum Level accreditation.
In 2012, with a membership of around 300, the Club moved into its new home at Broadwood Stadium after securing funding from “Cashback for Communities” which enabled it to contribute towards the replacement of the existing grass park with a FIFA Class 2 astroturf surface.
This has proven to be a catalyst for the growth of the club with current direct membership in the region of 500+ players.
The club now has both Boys and Girls Academies from age 4+ and these initiatives are the life blood of the club as each year new small sided games sections are created. Beyond the academies and in accordance with the Scottish FA Player Pathway, the club has girls under-11 teams, boys small games sections (Fun Four and seven-a-side) at every level i.e. U8s, U9s, U10s, U11s, U12s and thereafter 11-a-side teams up to and including adult level.
The adult male team play in the Scottish Lowland League (tier 5 of the professional game) and have aspirations to one day progress into the SPFL.
The club also runs a number of community outreach / social impact programmes. The club runs charitable events such as the Colts sleep out highlighting homelessness issues and holds an annual food bank for local charities.
It also involves placing community coaches into local schools during and after the normal school day as well as running open ASN/Disability section and hugely popular Mini-Kickers groups and participation programmes for any primary age children this list goes on and on.
This means that Cumbernauld Colts are providing football based activities to over 1000 local children and local people on a weekly basis.
