SCOTTISH FA CASE STUDY - EAST KILBRIDE UNITED COMMUNITY SPORTS CLUB
East Kilbride United Community Sports Club, are Scottish FA Quality Mark Accredited, comprising of East Kilbride YM and East Kilbride YC, the two oldest Clubs in the Town.
Based in the fantastically renovated Kirktonholme Playing Pitches the Club has made remarkable improvements both on and off the pitch in recent years.
With plans to turn one of the grass pitches into a synthetic surface the work doesn’t stop for Club Leader, Graeme Robertson and his team of amazing volunteers. Having already secured funding for plans in the pavilion to ensure there is appropriate Disability Access the Club are working hard to make it inclusive for the whole community.
Local Disability groups like Claremont Colts, SNAP and EK Hangout all regularly use the facilities and improvements will only enhance the experience which the groups use FREE of charge.
With the social spaces being used regularly by the whole community it really does help create a community spirit, all helped by the club leaders, coaches, parents and user groups.
And with the plans and infrastructure being driven off the pitch the Club haven’t taken their eye off the ball on the pitch. Boasting a full pathway for male players, including many adult teams and an ever growing female player offering the club are in a healthy position.
Sponsored programmes through the Scottish FA partners, McDonalds and Network Rail show the positive direction of the Club and with Walking Football and Football Memories groups within the Club prospering it is and exciting time for the EK Utd Community Sports Club family.
Having recently attended the #BeliveInThePowerOfFootball event at the Scottish Football Museum, Club stalwart, Denny Byrne was excited to take some ideas back to the Club and try and evolve things further.
