Aberdeen FC players Scott Severin and Lee Mair joined in the excitement at Strikers Indoor Football Centre when they met the young players competing in the Bank of Scotland Midnightleague North Regional Final.
Teams from Aberdeen, Wick, Inverness, Dingwall, Forres, Inverurie, Moray and Angus took part in the tournament - and the winners were:
Angus Juniors (12-13 years age group)
Team Doug from Aberdeen (14 years and over)
Over 160 young players from across the North of Scotland took part in the finals day in Aberdeen, where Scott, Lee and local MSP Lewis MacDonald were on hand to present medals and trophies to the winners.
Scott Severin was full of praise for the young participants. He said: “It is great to see such a worthwhile initiative freely available to young people across the area. All the players really seem to enjoy themselves too and the coaches are doing a great job.”
This year’s Midnightleague programme has been running at over 20 sports centres across the North of Scotland since January. The aim is to get boys and girls across Scotland off the streets and onto the pitch by giving them the chance to play organised five-a-side football in the evening.
The Midnightleague programme is delivered by the Scottish FA in partnership with Bank of Scotland, the Scottish Government’s CashBack for Communities Scheme, Coalfield Regeneration Trust, local authorities and police forces.
