International friendly
Australia v Scotland
Friday, 7 April 2023 (kick-off 1.15pm)
Cherry Red Records Stadium, Wimbledon
Pedro Martinez Losa’s Scotland side will begin their April camp against Australia on Friday, 7 April, in a 1.15pm kick-off at the Cherry Red Records Stadium in Wimbledon.
The match will be Scotland’s fourth against Australia, with a record so far of one loss, one win and one draw. The last of those meetings came back in 2015, when Jane Ross scored in a 1-1 draw.
Australia have based themselves in England for the duration of this international window, and can call upon the likes of captain, Sam Kerr, who currently stands as her country’s all-time top goal scorer with 62 goals.
TEAM NEWS
Having spent the week training in Bath, a squad of 23 will be available for the match, following Sarah Ewens’ pull-out from the initial squad through an injury picked-up in training.
Rangers trio Emma Watson, Chelsea Cornet and Kathryn Hill are all in the squad for the first time, and have the opportunity to make their debut against Australia.
PRE-MATCH THOUGHTS
Speaking ahead of the match, Pedro Martinez Losa said: "There is a great vibe in the group this week. There’s lots of energy in the squad and a few new faces. They’ve come together really quickly and it feels like family already.
“Australia will be a difficult test and they have some top players at clubs across Europe.
“There’s no pressure on us as we continue to grow and develop as a group but Australia go into this game looking to prove their level and show that they are ready for the World Cup.”
Scotland defender Nicola Docherty added: ”It’s going to be a good test. These next two friendlies are against teams that are going to the FIFA World Cup and you want to test yourself against the best.
"They’ve got top players and that’s the kind of environment that you want to prepare yourself in – especially with the Nations League coming up. We’re in League A so we’ll be going up against top opposition every time.
“Playing for Scotland, you just need to look at the men’s result against Spain, if we turn up then we know that we can get a result against anyone.”
