Soccer Sevens coaches from across Ayrshire came together at Greenwood Academy this week for a morning of training and discussion with staff from the Scottish FA South West region.

Over 40 coaches form the three local associations took part in a discussion that covered a variety of relevant topics:

  • The small-sided game in Ayrshire
  • The role of the coach in developing talent
  • Touchline behaviour
  • Scottish FA regional support

After the lively discussion, during which the coaches were encouraged to share their experiences and ideas, the group moved to the practical side of the morning.

Some of the themes covered on the pitch were:

  • Development 4s / shaping a 7-a-side team
  • Match day protocol
  • Match supervisor demonstration

The coaches in attendance all found the morning very worthwhile and some suggested that the event should become a compulsory annual event for all children’s coaches. Whether or not that happens, the South West staff will continue to offer events like these for all forward-thinking coaches.
