Over the months of September and October the South West Region is playing host to a Scottish FA Children’s Award course at Kilwinning Sports Club.

Sixteen coaches who are keen to develop to their fullest potential have committed their valuable time and enthusiasm to the five day course. The coaches study how best to deliver training sessions for up to twelve year olds and there is a real focus on developing technique and improving ability levels of our young players.

The players have been involved in delivering practice sessions and receiving feedback from their fellow course candidates and Scottish FA Tutors David White and John Brown.  After returning to their own teams and putting their planned sessions to the test on the pitch, the coaches will return and be assessed. Coaches from community programmes, grassroots clubs and professional clubs alike have joined forces to fine-tune their coaching techniques.

St Mirren, Hamilton Accies and Kilmarnock all have coaches attending to gain this award and the future of these clubs’ young players would appear to be in good hands.

The course has been blessed by great weather and the standard of young players helping with the demonstrations has been excellent. Kilmarnock has kindly provided their younger age groups, and the player’s ability and appetite to learn has been a credit to their club and themselves.
