UEFA Women's EURO Qualifier
Scotland vs Belarus
Friday 23rd October 2015, 7:45pm kick-off
Fir Park, Motherwell
Scotland and Manchester City defender Jennifer Beattie is eager to build on the great memories that Fir Park has for her with another positive result on Friday against Belarus.
Anna Signeul’s side won four of their five matches in Motherwell during their 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign, scoring 21 goals in the process.
Beattie scored in the victories over Northern Ireland and the Faroe Islands at the ground, and is hoping that the team can build on the previous successes at Fir Park against a challenging opponent in Belarus.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s 2017 UEFA Women’s EURO qualifier, Beattie said: “Fir Park is always a good ground to play at. We’ve got loads of good memories here, and we’ll be looking to make some on Friday.
“It’s a great pitch that allows us every opportunity to play good football, which is what we will have to do to break down Belarus.”
Scotland go into tonight’s match on the back of a 3-0 victory away to Slovenia in their opening match of Group 1. It was a great start to the campaign against a tough opponent to get the mission to reach the finals in the Netherlands up and running.
Beattie said: “That game (in Slovenia) was a tough one to play. Away fixtures are always difficult, when you’re playing in a different country in front of their fans. It was tricky as they were very well organized, but once we got our nerves out of the way we got the result we needed.”
To read the interview in full, pick up the match programme at Fir Park on Friday. Tickets are £5 for adults and £2 for concessions, with a youth group offer (five adults and 20 children for £30) also available.
