35 clubs were honoured at the Scottish FA South West’s annual Quality Mark Awards event - recently hosted at The Park Hotel, next to Kilmarnock FC’s Rugby Park. One of the teams delighted to be accepting an award were Caledonian YC.
Vice Chairman and coach of Caledonian United Under 16s, Bobby McCulloch, described the club saying: “At Caledonian YC we believe in the complete player pathway. This means the boys coming in at five all the way through to Under 17s and adult football. We also have girls’ teams competing at 7-a-side and also 11-a-side.”
With their facilities at Prestwick, several 7-a-side and 11-a-side pitches, one 3G training pitch and a club house, they have a great base for a club that can only expand in the future.
“We see the club as a beacon of the community” said Bobby.
“Right now we have around 220-250 players registered throughout the age groups.”
“With the help of the Quality Mark programme we are hoping to move the club forward by adding a social club to the clubhouse and building our own 3G 11-a-side park within the next five to ten years.”
“We also hope to own our grounds. We are presently in discussion with the local council, to try and do exactly that.”
When asked why the Quality Mark is important to the club he said: “It’s brilliant, the fact that you get the backing from the Scottish FA. Guys like John Brown, David Sheldon and Tommy Tait coming in and helping us. All the guys up there, they couldn’t be more helpful.”
