The Scottish FA are supporting Clean Sport Week 2023. We have committed to delivering Anti-Doping Education on a rolling two-year programme that has been approved by UK Anti-Doping and is compliant with WADA's International Standards for education and UEFA.

We have delivered 31 courses to over 750 players and staff.

Prohibited Lists

Every January a new prohibited list is published which includes all banned substances. See the list here. Players and Personnel should check the list if they are taking any substances that may move on to the list. The Scottish FA Educator Graeme Foreman emailed all clubs before publication.

Checking Medications

Don’t worry if you need to take any medication for health and wellbeing reasons – we have got you covered.

If you are unsure about the status of any medication, check out the list here.

Some top tips:

- Make sure you run everything by your team doctor.
- Don’t just assume medications over the counter are not banned.
- Be careful taking medications and purchasing medications abroad.
- If you see a GP – remember their job is to make you feel better, check if they have given you medications that may be banned in sport and ask for an alternative.
- If you are taking or need to take any substance that are banned for medical reasons then make sure that you and/or the team doctor apply for a TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption).

Anti-Doping Educators Course

As part of the Scottish FA’s Assurance Framework we have recently ran the first UK Anti-Doping Educators Course at Hampden which included the education of three new Scottish FA Educators as well as candidates from seven other Scottish NGB’s. Our commitment to Clean Sport will be growing over the coming months.

Supplements

The supplement industry is a multi-billion-pound market. Unfortunately, there are so many mixed messages around supplements, myths and false information. Our key message around supplements is “There Is No Guarantee” that a supplement can be clean. Follow the ANARAC formula to mitigate supplement risk.

Access the need – Do you need to take it or is there a better alternative!
Access the risk – supplement misuse could result in a ban by being in breach of an ADRV. Read the rules here.
Access the consequences - What would happen if you had your contract terminated. You can check if a supplement has been batch tested on Informed Sport but there are still no guarantees.
