Five ambitious Scottish FA East Region Quality Mark clubs recently made a journey south to visit the North Edinburgh based club, Spartans FC. Spartans have formed an excellent reputation for the development of players, coaches, facilities and communities, which the East Region clubs were keen to learn from.
The five clubs, Dundee East Community Sports Club, Dundee West FC, Arbroath Community Sports Club, Glenrothes Strollers and Letham Community Sports Club were treated to a facility tour and a presentation from Spartans club staff member Craig Graham (Chairman) and Douglas Samuel (Development Manager). Craig and Graham gave the visiting clubs an inspirational insight into their structure, community programmes, facilities, finance and philosophy.
Glenrothes Strollers secretary Brian Gibson said “The visit was highly beneficial as Spartans are currently in a position that our club are aspiring to get to. The facilities and set up of the club was fantastic and is a motivation for us as a club to press ahead with our plans.”
Kevin Lee, Scottish FA Club Development Officer added “Each of the clubs have ambitions in their own local areas to provide quality coaching and facilities for their players, while using football as a tool to develop better communities. Spartans are a club that have achieved this over the past few years and were delighted to share their success stories, barrier and pitfalls which will be invaluable to our visiting clubs future journeys.”
