An ever growing partnership between Inverurie Loco’s Football Club and Aberdeenshire Council’s Disability Sport Officer Claire Bonner saw the game of football brought to children of all abilities across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire.
On Tuesday 22nd March a support of learners and special schools tournament was held at Aberdeen Sport Village. With eleven teams completing for two trophy’s 25 games were played until Dyce Academy and Ellon Academy reached the final of the Support for Learners tournament with Dyce coming out on top with a 2 – 1 win over Ellon. Bucksburn Academy B team and Anna Ritchie A team reaching the final in the Special Schools tournament with Bucksburn just beating Anna Ritchie 2 -1. The day was supported by Sports students from Moray College who gained experience in event management and officiating on the day. Aberdeenshire Council’s Claire Boner said "The festival was a great success showing that football is a game that can be enjoyed by all levels of ability. The sportsmanship of the children is commendable supporting fellow pupil’s and encouraging others schools. The children gain so much from working in a team environment and meeting others children who share similar frustrations and difficulties".
