South Lanarkshire Leisure ran its successful Street Football Tournament over the October Week. The eventual winners of the week-long tournament were ‘Rigside’.
Throughout the week, South Lanarkshire Leisure held qualifying tournaments in different venues, such as East Kilbride, Hamilton, Larkhall and Lesmahagow. There were high numbers of participants at each venue were 196 in total took part.
A number of teams competed throughout the week in a league format and the top two teams progressed to the finals day which was held in the Indoor Arena at Hamilton Palace Sports Ground.
With nine teams competing in the final day, all teams played a number of games. The teams were split into two leagues with the top two teams from each league moving into the semi-finals.
The four semi-finalists were Camby 7, Rigside, Young Guns and Mothertick. Both semi-finals were close but in the end the two teams who progressed into the final were Young Guns and Rigside.
Just like the semi-final games, the final was a close fought game with Rigside eventually taking the lead with 5 minutes left in the match. Rigside doubled their lead with seconds left in the match to win 2-0 in the end and become Street Football Champions for the second time.
South Lanarkshire Leisure would like to give a special mention and thanks to Wiseman Dairies who were the sponsors of the Street Football tournament. They provided the participants with free footballs and milk which was very much appreciated by all.
The next tournament will run during the Easter Holidays.
