Dundee United Sports Club was recognised for it’s valuable contribution to grassroots football at the Dundee United v Motherwell game on Saturday.
Steven Maloney from Dundee United Sports Club was presented with the Scottish FA Quality Mark Community Award by Tim Allan, Big Lottery Fund Scotland Committee, and Stewart Hosie, MP for Dundee East, at Tannadice Park.
The award, part of the Quality Mark Accreditation Scheme run by the Scottish FA in partnership with McDonald’s and The Big Lottery Fund, recognises pro-active clubs and schools working to increase youth and community participation.
Dundee United Sports Club, which last year celebrated it’s 25th anniversary, achieved Community status, the highest award available within the Quality Mark scheme. The club, which is based at Monymusk Park, boasts a pathway from child to adult football for both males and females.
DUSC Club Development Officer, Steven Maloney said: “The support we have received from the Scottish FA in the process has been invaluable. The club is very well organised but this award puts us at another level and gives us the recognition that we feel we deserve.”
Kevin Lee, Scottish FA Club Development Manager said: “DUSC is one of 14 clubs that have achieved this award nationally, and it is testament to the hard work carried out on a day-to-day basis by the committee, players, parents and volunteers within the club. Quality Mark not only supports clubs that are starting up, but also gives support and recognition to the larger, more established, clubs.”
Tim Allan, member of the Big Lottery Fund Scotland Committee, said: "Here at the Big Lottery Fund we are proud to support the development of grassroots football in Scotland.
"I am particularly pleased to see a local club in Dundee receiving the recognition that it deserves. From players and coaches through to parents and volunteers, everyone should be applauded for playing their part in the club's success."
