St Mirren's Under 19 players took their first steps on the coaching ladder this week by attending a Level 1 Early Touches Scttish FA course at the club's training ground in Ralston, Paisley.
Three of the 19's squad are already coaching in the Community as part of the club's successful Street Football programme.
In total, 17 of the squad attended the course which focuses on being a Football Coach, Small Sided Games (4v4, 7v7, Futsal) and Related Activities including dribbling, passing, heading, shooting and relays.
Gary Hocknull, Community Coach at St Mirren said, "The Level 1 course is obviously very different from the day to day coaching they receive at Ralston, however it was good for them to have an insight into how sessions are prepared, structured and allow everyone to play at the younger age groups. Hopefully some of the boys will take the Level 1 course on board and look to progress through the Scottish FA coaching pathway."
It is hoped that moving through the coaching pathway will allow the U19 players become more rounded individuals, developing their life experience and interpersonal skills, and providing them with other football skills they can use if they do not make it in the game as a professional.
