The East of Scotland Football League will play Livingston FC in the first ever under 23 challenge match at Almondvale Stadium, Livingston. The match will take place on Monday 2nd November 2009, 7.45pm. This match is open to the public.
Over the last two years the full East of Scotland squad have competed very well, winning convincingly twice against the Highland League Select and winning and drawing friendlies against Linlithgow Rose and Raith Rovers respectively.
Several players were chosen to represent Scotland in a semi-pro tournament. They also have had several Select team players moving into the SFL. In the last two years, Kevin Motion and Scott Bennett signed for Stenhousemuir, Jamie Redman and Robbie Ross went to Arbroath, Ross Campbell to Forfar, Nicky Walker to Stirling, Andy Howat to Berwick Rangers, and of course last season Lewis Sloan joined Steven Sloan at Annan.
The 'new' East of Scotland under 23 initiative is fully supported by the SFA Development Team and SFA delegates including Jim Fleeting. Donald Park will attend on the night and give feedback on the match and performance.
It is estimated that there are around 200 under 23 players in the East of Scotland Association therefore numerous excellent players are not included in the squad for this particular game. However, it is hoped their time will come. Several of the players in the squad are still in their teens.
