The East of Scotland Soccer Development Association (ESSDA) have made a very progressive move and created a new section for the 2004 age group commencing in March 2011. The new 7s age group will play 4v4 development football and will participate in a festival format of short games against various teams each weekend at several football centres across Edinburgh and Midlothian.
The new age group for ESSDA comes at a very exciting time for Scottish football with the launch of the new national player pathway, for the first time ever, players will be playing the same format and rules of football at the same age group with 7s and 8s playing 4v4, 9s,10s, 11s and half a season of 12s playing 7v7 with progressing rules as the age group moves towards the 11v11 game which commences at secondary school age. The 4v4 and 7v7 game will be played in the milder weather months of March to November with a July break followed by an indoor futsal programme where appropriate in the winter months of January and February. ESSDA continue to be one of the most progressive associations in the country, once again showing that they are leading the way in the development of the game.
