Scottish FA President Mike Mulraney has been named Chairperson of FIFA’s Finance Committee.
He is one of four senior figures within Hampden Park to have been called upon by the game’s most senior governing body to bolster their operations.
The FIFA Finance Committee advises on and assists with the financial management of FIFA.
Responsibilities include analysing and preparing FIFA’s budget to be submitted to the Council for approval, analysing and preparing the accounts and consolidated financial statements to be submitted to the Council, supervising the implementation of policies, rules and guidelines regarding FIFA’s overall strategy in financial and asset management matters and advising on any other relevant matters relating to FIFA’s finances, except for operational matters.
Following his appointment, Mike Mulraney said: “It’s an honour to be invited to Chair FIFA’s Finance Committee.
“Since being elected as President of the Scottish FA, I have said it was hugely important that Scotland – as the architects of the game, and one of FIFA’s longest-standing members – is better represented internationally.
“This is something the Scottish FA has worked hard to improve in recent years.
“I will give my all in supporting the economic growth of the game for all members of FIFA.
“I will also ensure that the voice of Scottish football can resonate at international level, off the field as well as on it.”
Elsewhere, the Scottish FA’s Chief Executive, Ian Maxwell, has been invited to join the Men’s Football Stakeholders Committee.
Rucelle Soutar – the Scottish FA’s Chief Operating Officer – will add her expertise to the Football Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation Committee.
Finally, the Scottish FA’s Chief Medical Officer – and Scotland Men’s A Team Doctor - Jonny Gordon, has been invited to FIFA’s Medical Committee.
On the refreshed committees, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “The new Standing Committees will lead to the greater involvement of our Member Associations, the confederations and other stakeholders in our decision-making processes, increased female representation and more focused technical expertise in various areas relevant to football.
“In other words, FIFA will be better equipped to face the future.”
