Dundee played host to a spectacular celebration of girls’ football recently.
Over 600 people attended the East region League Cup Finals and under-nine and eleven festival at Dundee University.
Scotland internationals Lisa Evans, Emma Mitchell and under-19 national coach Shelley Kerr were the star attraction as teams battled it out for the 13 and 15s trophies.
Lomond Colts beat Monifieth LFC 7-2 in the 13s cup final and Dundee United won 9-3 against Monifieth LFC in the 15s trophy.
Girls’ and women’s football development officer for the Scottish FA in the east region Sam Milne said: “The League Cup Finals was a great event this year and it was great to see so many young girls being involved in the sport.
“This is our third year of organising this day and to see girls as young as six attend this year to play in some fun games was very pleasing.
“A lot of credit must go to all the girls clubs who continually support the East region events.
“We believe there may have been around 500 to 600 people pass through the gates to watch the girls taking part in either the 9s or 11s festival or the two cup finals, which is a massive amount for us.”
Scottish FA East regional manager Ian Lowe said :“This has been an outstanding event and thanks must go to my team and Youth Football Scotland, SWFitba, British Red Cross, Dundee University, Everest Explorer for the catering and Lisa, Emma and Shelley for making it such a success.”
