Over 60 girls from seven different clubs gathered at Spartans Academy in Edinburgh last Sunday for the first Scottish FA South East region under 11 girls festival of 2010.

The festival brought girls from around the region together before the regional girls' centres kick off at the start of April.

The teams that participated in the event were:

Spartans, Polbeth, Hutchison Vale, Whitburn, Craigshill Thistle, Musselburgh Windsor and Linlithgow.

The new U11 girls centres have recently been set up to give the players the oportunity to progress into the South East region leagues over the coming years.

The three seperate centres will include players from:

Borders
West Lothian
Edinburgh, East & Midlothian

Scottish FA events co-ordinator Aidan Forbes said: "This is an exciting time for clubs in the region.  We hope that increased participation within this age group will help to grow the game and also encourage girls to start becoming involved in football from a younger age”

Other teams in the region with activities at this age group are: Dunbar United, Haddington Athletic, Fernieside, Beeslack Thistle, Loanhead Miners, Blackburn Utd, Peebles, Gala Fairydean, Hawick and Tweedmouth.
