The Highlands hosted their Bank of Scotland Soccer One tournament on Thursday 20th May 2010 at Highland Football Academy, Dingwall. The girls aged from S1 to S3 competed against each other in what was a well organised and very successful afternoon of football.

The four teams competing in the round robin were; from the North – Golspie High School; Highland Central - Culloden Academy; Moray – Lossiemouth High School and Lochaber – Lochaber High School.

Peter Budge commented “It was interesting to see the different levels of ability and Lossiemouth High having the experience of playing in the BoS initiative for a number of years proved too strong for their counter parts on the day. However, for the schools the experience of playing against other opponents can assist in the development of their players within the BoS programme”.

“The tournament produced on average four goals per game and great credit goes to the players – good technique and game awareness and to the coaches for approaching the games in the correct manner. The players were well versed in fair play and the support from the coaches in providing encouragement was exemplary.”

Lossiemouth High School on winning all their games will now represent the Highlands in the National Finals on Tuesday 15th June at Toryglen.

Bank of Scotland Soccer One is a national network of football activity running in participating Secondary Schools from August to June. Run in partnership with the Scottish FA, the programme aims to create new football teams in schools for boys and girls, regardless of ability. In the past two years, Bank of Scotland Soccer One has helped create new boys and girl’s school football teams, with free coaching and games for thousands of young people who would previously not have had the chance to play.

In addition, and to assist with the development of coaches and volunteers, the programme has provided support to volunteers via access to Scottish FA coach education courses, in-service sessions and the provision of coaching curriculums and other resources.
