Inverurie Locos FC has joined Deveronvale FC and the Scottish FA in their support for learning disability football across the North East.
This year has been particularly successful for the Grampian support for learning squad, as they won the National 5-a-side Championships in Glasgow in April then the National 7-a-side Championships in Edinburgh in September.
This squad structure is ever stronger with the partnership between Aberdeenshire Council Disability Sport Development Officer Claire Bonner and the two Highland league clubs.
Deveronvale FC held a support for learners festival in July with Fraserburgh Academy A team coming top. Then Fraserburgh Academy gained top spot again at the Inverurie Locos Festival which was held on Monday 21 September at Garioch Sport Centre, Inverurie. David Cormie, Inverurie Locos manager and Locos Chairman William Lippe were in attendance.
Claire Bonner said: "These opportunities are so important to allow everyone with a passion for football the opportunity to play the game they love. This is so much more than football - it gives the children the opportunity to work as part of a team and achieve to the best of their ability.
"The pathway is so strong from local to national level with three local squad players gaining their first cap for Scotland in April this year. With the support from Deveronvale and Locos I can see our local players dominating the National learning Disability Scotland squad in 2010"
