Scotland Under-17s will warm-up for their UEFA European Under-17 Championship Elite Round group with a friendly match against Romania at Rugby Park on 24th February. Entry is FREE for under-16s.
Romania, who have also qualified for the Elite Round, will provide Scot Gemmill’s side with a stern test at the home of Kilmarnock.
Scotland topped their Qualifying Round group in September last year and will take on Bosnia-Herzegovina, Czech Republic and Hungary, who will host the group, in March for a place at this summer’s finals in Bulgaria.
With the finals tournament expanding to 16 teams for the first time this year, the eight Elite Round group winners will advance to the finals alongside the seven best runners-up.
Scotland will be looking to reach back-to-back finals for the first time following their success in last season’s tournament in Malta where they reached the semi-final stage.
There is an added incentive to qualify for this season’s finals tournament with six places at the 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Chile up for grabs.
Gemmill said: “This is an important preparation match for us with the Elite Round just around the corner.
“We know from last year just how tough it is to qualify for the finals and it’s crucial we are ready for the challenges that await us in Hungary in March.
“We have some players in our squad who were part of that fantastic adventure in Malta last year and I would love for another group of players to benefit from that kind of top-level experience.
“Romania have also qualified for the Elite Round so we know we are in for a difficult match but they are just the kind of opponent we need at this stage.
Entry to Scotland’s clash with Romania is by cash gate and is FREE for supporters under the age of 16 and just £5 for adults. The match kicks-off at 7pm.
