Scotland international Kim Little has been voted the BBC Women’s World Player of the Year.
The Scotland and Seattle Reign midfielder won the public vote conducted by the BBC World Service, where she was up against Gaelle Enganamouit, Amandine Henry, Carli Lloyd and Becky Sauerbrunn for the prestigious award.
Little, who has 115 caps and 46 goals for the national team, has had a stunning 12 months, winning domestic honours in Australia and the United States as well as being an integral part of Anna Signeul’s Scotland team who have a 100% in UEFA Women’s EURO qualifiers.
Speaking to the BBC, Little said: "I'm surprised to win - I'm extremely humbled to win.
"We've got a great team here at Seattle Reign and it's great to share it with them. I'm extremely proud of the season I had here at Seattle Reign, at Melbourne and also Scotland."
Scotland National Team coach Anna Signeul: “It’s such an incredible achievement for Kim. She’s been a role model for young players in Scotland for such a long time, and this award is very well deserved.
“Even at an early age she had such a great technique and her physique was excellent. It’s something that she’s worked tremendously hard at over the years, and since she’s moved to the United States she’s become faster and stronger.
“To have that balance and physique is one thing, but to then have the football brain and understanding of the game as well makes her the perfect player. She has the ability and technique to execute passes and shots that very few can do.
“It’s fantastic that we have so many great players doing well all over the world and domestically, too. Scotland should be so proud to have the best player in the world.”
Mary Hockaday, Controller of BBC World Service English, said: "Well done to Kim Little. It's been another outstanding year for women's football and Kim's talent shines through on the pitch.
"I'm delighted BBC World Service plays an important part in giving female footballers the recognition they deserve."
Scotland face Iceland next Friday in a crucial UEFA Women's EURO qualifier at the Falkirk Stadium, with two-for-one on pre-sale tickets and youth group offers available.
