Jeanfield Ladies are looking to build on their first season in Division 1 and have lined up some pre-season action against some strong outfits to test the squad's mettle.

In their first pre-season friendly they came up against a strong Spartans team in what was a well-contested match. The result was a pleasing 4-1, although at this stage the score is largely meaningless. Despite some rustiness, which was only to be expected, the girls tried to do all the right things. Bonuses were Chiara Grossi and Erin Thatcher both making returns to the pitch after twelve months out, with Erin celebrating her debut for the team. Alex MacLean was Jeanfield's top player, while goals came from Emma MacLean (two – her first in senior football), Eilidh McIntyre and Robyn Smith.

Further good news is that Rebecca Foote has been included in the U19s National Camp this coming weekend. It is a fantastic reward for the work that Rebecca has done to come back after losing her U15s national squad place through injury. Since returning to Jeanfield and working with the Ladies from August last year, she has made sufficient improvements to attract the attention of the selectors. She attended the last day of the previous camp which included the U19s and the A squad, impressing enough to be asked back. As a 17 year old, she has two years at this level.

Head Coach, Jason McCrindle is delighted with the way pre-season is progressing. Jason explained “we sat down with the girls before Christmas and asked them to commit to the pre-season schedule and I've been delighted with the response. In pretty severe weather conditions the Ladies have been a delight to work with. Strong numbers and an excellent attitude have made the sessions very effective. Also, with the numbers attending there is already a very healthy competition for places. They’ve shown a real desire to improve and that’s all I can ask of them. They have also committed positively to their own development plans and I am already fitting player-specific work into the Friday sessions. They are also working separately with Lewis Mathieson on their strength and again have been very committed to this. The girls are also a great bunch and the sessions have been really enjoyable. So far it has been an excellent pre-season.”
