Pollok FC has become the first Junior club in the West region to receive a Scottish FA Quality Mark award.

Quality Mark is designed to support and recognise the work of clubs and teams who have a desire to be the very best they can be.

To gain one of the awards - Entry, Standard, Development, Community or Legacy – there is a related list of criteria that the club must achieve.

View the criteria here.

This criteria is aimed at improving or supporting management, development structures, administration, planning, welfare and coach education.

Pollok, based on the south side of Glasgow, has been working with Scottish FA West region club development manager, Danny Bisland, over a number of months to meet the criteria for the Standard award.

Danny said: “I would just like to say a massive thanks to Pollok FC club president, Fergus McDiarmid, and the rest of the hard working committee at the club, notably Iain McFarlane, for the time and effort they have spent in gaining this award.

“I am delighted that a club of this stature in Scottish football has seen the benefits of obtaining Quality Mark.

“I’d also like to thank them for creating the links to the local youth clubs in their area to create pathways for players and fans to enjoy football in their local area.”

Last October, Pollok – one of the oldest Junior clubs in Scottish football -  established a link with Pollok United Soccer Academy to create a pathway for youth players into the Junior first team.

Creating a pathway from the youth to adult game is one of the criteria within the Quality Mark programme which clubs are asked to meet.

Gary Doctor, football development officer for Glasgow Life and the Scottish FA’s West region, has worked with Pollok for a number of years.

He said: “I’d like to offer my congratulations with Pollok FC on achieving Scottish FA Quality Mark status.

“It is fantastic to see the club really carry forward their plans to be an inclusive football club.

“I look forward to working alongside Pollok FC for many years to come and also to seeing the club take new directions and help support them to reach their goals.”
