The Learning Disability football programme in now underway in Central Region, hosted by North Lanarkshire at the new Ravenscraig facility.
The first round of fixtures took place on Friday 19th November with 5 teams involved; Firpark, Drumpark, Portland & Glencryan who are all from North Lanarkshire and Carrongrange who travelled from Falkirk.
This is a new programme developed by the Scottish FA, local authorities and other bodies to give more opportunities in sport of those with disabilities. It is open to schools to enter the league and each school that enter a team will receive a team training pack, including footballs, training bibs, markers and session planners.
There were some exciting games and some fantastic goals scored in this first round with Drumpark currently sitting top of the table by only two points.
This programme is being mirrored in all the other regions with the winners of each Schools League crowned Regional Champions and earning the right to play in the National Final to become Scottish Champions.
A big thanks must go to the staff and coaches from North Lanarkshire Council whose hard work and commitment made the day run so smoothly. Also thanks must go out to Craig Brown and Archie Knox who kindly gave up there time to come along and watch some games.
The next Central Schools League fixture will take place on the 4th February 2011.
