Cowdenbeath assistant manager Lee Makel is to take on coaching duties left over following the retiral of veteran Walter Borthwick in East Lothian until a suitable replacement is found.
Walter, who spent over 40 years in the game, retired last Friday as a football development officer for the Scottish FA and East Lothian Council and now Lee – who had a distinguished playing career with clubs such as Newcastle, Livingston and Huddersfield Town – will oversee coach education programmes in the area.
“I’m looking forward to working in East Lothian,” said Lee. “I don’t expect to fill the shoes of Walter but I can help make sure his work is carried on.
“There is so much football opportunities in this part of Scotland. It is a vibrant and thriving football environment which I hope I can bring my skills and knowledge to.”
