Football fever hit Glasgow at the weekend as 200 local youngsters and their families headed to the McDonald’s Football Open Day – one of many free, family, community football days taking place around the country this summer.

Organised by McDonald’s franchisees Kenny and Kate Walker, the Toryglen Football Hub and the Scottish FA, the open day offered families the once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet football legends John Collins, Alan Rough and Andy Walker.

The event formed part of McDonald’s Community partnership with The Scottish FA and aimed to inspire youngsters to sharpen their skills through a series of interactive coaching sessions, mini-tournaments and skills’ inflatables, designed to help develop dribbling, aerial ability and shooting accuracy.

Family and friends were also encouraged to join in the fun by trying their hand at coaching or even signing up as a club volunteer.

Kate Walker said: “The McDonald’s Open Day was a great opportunity for our local community to get together and enjoy a family-focused football day out. By encouraging local volunteers to qualify as community coaches, we’re helping to increase access to free, qualified coaching for youngsters throughout Glasgow - so they can enjoy many more days like these all year round.”
