With the FIFA Women's World Cup currently underway in Canada, a special event will take place at St Ninian’s High School in East Renfrewshire tomorrow aimed at encouraging more young women to participate in and pursue careers in sport.

The Scottish FA will kick off Scotland's involvement in the global FIFA Live Your Goals campaign, as 130 girls take part in a live Q&A session with some inspirational women in sport, including  Scotland international Kirsty Smith. Attendees include:

Freya Murray – Team GB 5,000/10,000 runner

Kerry MacPhee – Team Scotland Mountain Biker

Kirsty Smith – Scotland & Hibernian footballer

Amy McDonald – Head of Youth at Glasgow City

Alison Bell – Team GB Hockey

Emma Brownlie – Scotland & Hibernian footballer

Lesley MacDonald – Team GB Netball

Cheryl Smith – Journalist

Lindsey Smith – Scottish Rugby Internationalist


Those who have been watching the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada will be familiar with the Live Your Goals story and accompanying #LiveYourGoals Social Media campaign. Launched at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011 its aim is to target and inspire women and girls to play football and stay in the game. FIFA hopes to increase the number of girls and women playing football to 45 million by the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019™ and help spread the message of #LiveYourGoals.
