Scotland Under-17s host Romania at Somerset Park on Tuesday night and two players will know each other’s game better than anybody.
Twins Robby and Ross McCrorie both play for Rangers and have been called up for the friendly international by National Youth Team Coach Scot Gemmill.
They have been a regular fixture in the international set-up and formed part of the side that won the 2013 Sky Sports Victory Shield. Both players believe their unique understanding gives them an advantage on the pitch.
Robby said: “We know what we are both like and we can read each other’s games. We have each other’s backs but there’s a bit of competition at times to see who can do the best.”
Ross added: “Hopefully we can do well and get picked for the Euro qualifiers. It’s an experience.”
Scotland topped their UEFA European Under-17 Championship Qualifying Round group in September and will take on Bosnia-Herzegovina, Czech Republic and Hungary in March for a place at this summer’s finals in Bulgaria.
There is an added incentive to qualify for this season’s finals tournament with six places at the 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Chile up for grabs.
Goalkeeper Robby was part of the team that reached the Under-17 European Championship semi-finals for the first time ever last year. He’s confident Scotland can do just as well – if not better – next time around.
He said: “Last year we had a really good squad and this year it’s just as good. Hopefully we can get to the semi-finals again, it’s something that would live with you for the rest of your life. It would be great for the boys to get just as far but hopefully we can get to the final this time.”
Entry to Scotland’s clash with Romania is by cash gate and is FREE for supporters under the age of 16 and just £5 for adults. The match kicks-off at 7pm.
