A Scottish FA supported community club in North Ayrshire has formed a ‘mums’ team’.
Kilbirnie Community FC (KCFC) had a team – made up of mums of players at the club – take part in an annual Fun Day in the town recently.
Graham Mathie, of the Scottish FA’s South West regional team, explained: “A group of mums decided that instead of standing around while their children trained, they would go for a jog.
“They then introduced a football to their sessions.
“This year’s Fun Day came round and the mums had a team playing, representing KCFC. “
Graham added that the performance proved to be to such a high level that the group decided to form a more regular set-up.
“They wanted to keep going after the tournament,” Graham said. “Training sessions have now been organised every Tuesday night.”
15 players are now on the books as a result.
