The Scottish FA has been awarded €50,000 from UEFA to benefit its already-successful work with ethnic minorities.
Scotland are one of six national associations out of 21 from across Europe to be successful in their application for the UEFA Football and Refugees Grant in the first year of the fund’s inception.
The grant aims to integrate ethnic minorities and refugees into their local football club. It will help continue the Scottish FA’s commitment to clubs being at the heart of their community and will form two key parts.
On the pitch, children will be coached by grassroots volunteers with the aim of integrating them into the mainstream teams involved with the club.
Off the pitch, parents will be invited into the club to learn about its structures as well as the support services that are available to the local communities.
Scottish FA Para-Football and Equality Lead David McArdle said: “We are delighted to achieve this grant following our successful history in working with ethnic minority groups as part of the Scottish Government’s Cashback funding and integrating these participants into our flagship Quality Mark club accreditation programme.
“In the coming months the Scottish FA will be implementing the initiative and will be working to establish community and club links to facilitate this exciting new programme.”
