CAREER

DUNDEE UNITED – 2010 to 2015
APPEARANCES: 126     GOALS: 18

Armstrong made his first senior appearance for Dundee United in November 2010 when he came on during a 1-0 win over Hamilton. It wasn’t until the 2012-13 season that the young midfielder really made an impact on the Scottish game, receiving the Premier League Young Player of the Month award in February 2013 (he was nominated for Young Player of the Year but lost out to Scotland and Celtic teammate Leigh Griffiths). He was rewarded for his fine form with a Scotland call-up in May 2013 but didn’t make it onto the pitch.

In 2013-14, Armstrong played a key role in United’s resurgence under Jackie McNamara and was widely praised for his passing skills and eye for goal (he scored 11 goals in all competitions). In his final game for Dundee United, Armstrong helped his club to a Scottish League Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen.

CELTIC – 2015
APPEARANCES: 25     GOALS: 4

The Inverness-born midfielder signed for Celtic in January 2015 alongside fellow Dundee United star Gary Mackay-Steven. Armstrong quickly built a rapport with the Celtic supporters with a goal in both his debut and first game at Celtic Park against Inter Milan. With three starts and two goals already this season, Armstrong could be embarking on a season to remember.

SCOTLAND UNDER-21s

Armstrong played 20 games for the Under-21s and skippered the side in his final appearances in 2014.
