The Scottish FA Central Region and Positive Coaching Scotland are holding a series of parents’ workshops this week, aimed at creating a more positive environment for young players in the area.
The seminars take place at:
Alloa Town Hall, 31st August, 6.30 – 8pm
Falkirk Town Hall, 1st September, 6.30 – 8pm
Forthbank Stadium, 2nd September, 6.30 – 8pm
Andy Gould, Scottish FA Head of Regional Development, will be speaking at all three workshops, while Falkirk and Scotland under-21 star, Scott Arfield, will attend Falkirk Town Hall to speak about his positive and negative experiences in football when growing up.
The PCS philosophy teaches that ‘winning’ for youngsters in sport goes beyond what the scoreboard reads, and that winning can mean reaching other targets, such as achieving their ambitions through effort, learning from mistakes and working within a team.
Parents and children alike will also learn to ‘Honour the Game’ and respect the referee and the opposition. This message is strongly enforced to parents and coaches, as it is their own behaviour on the touchline that young players will look to as an example.
The workshops are supported by Active Stirling, Clackmannanshire Council and Forth Valley Football Development Association, as well as local clubs Falkirk FC, Alloa Athletic and Stirling Albion.
George Craig, Managing Director of Falkirk FC, said: “Falkirk FC believe that it is vitally important in the development of young footballers that they are coached in a positive and encouraging environment. This is a message that we promote at all age groups within the club.
“We have a thriving Community Programme with coaching initiatives for thousands of local boys and girls of all abilities. Our Academy is now among the best in the country and we currently have 16 Academy Graduates in our 1st team squad.”
All parents who attend will be given a complimentary ticket to watch either a Falkirk FC, Alloa Athletic or Stirling Albion home game, and they will be entered into a draw to win free tickets for Scotland v Macedonia at Hampden on Saturday 5th September.
