Quarriers Utd FC have made new friends in South Africa, after donating boxes of football kit to Cape Town side Langa Utd.

Head Coach, Graham Robertson, said: “At our awards ceremony in June, we announced that we wanted to do something to help under privileged footballers in South Africa with a view to establishing a long-term link with a club there.

“So, the club asked all the players and parents to hand in any unwanted football kits, boots or shin pads. The response was excellent and three boxes of kit were taped up and sent to South Africa.”

On a recent holiday to Cape Town, Graham took the boxes to a football tournament in the Langa Township in Cape Town, where he met representatives of Langa Utd, and the local volunteer youth football coach.

Graham said: “It’s important to remember that these children live in makeshift wooden sheds and how important it is for them to have football in their community. The club hope to continue to work with the footballers in Langa over the coming years.”

Quarriers Utd is a Scottish FA Quality Mark club, with established teams for under 12s, 10s, 9s and 8s, and a total player pool of some 70+ children.
