St Johnstone’s community coaching team are at the forefront of a groundbreaking new initiative which was formerly launched on Monday 14th November at McDiarmid Park by Chairman Stevie Brown.

Believed to be first of its kind in Britain, by working in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council’s Housing and Community Care Service, the initiative, entitled Saints Academy-Inclusion Through Sport, offers adults with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorder or mental ill health the opportunity to participate in a range of different sports on a regular basis.

Working with Sports Development Officers and community coaches, participants will get the chance to recieve regular coaching in sports such as football, cricket, tennis and rugby at accessible venues across Perth and Kinross.

Stevie said: “I am delighted that our community coaching team is reaching out to different parts of the local community to offer increased sporting opportunities for people who may not otherwise get the chance to take part in them.

I hope this continues to evidence the pivotal role our club plays in this area and I am grateful that the Council recognised this with its support for this project.”
