Scotland v Gibraltar
UEFA Under-21 Championship Qualifying
Thursday, 9 October 2025 (5:30pm kick-off, UK time)
Dens Park, Dundee

Scotland Men’s Under-21s continue their European Championship Qualifying campaign on Thursday evening with a home tie against Gibraltar at Dens Park, Dundee.

Scot Gemmill’s side then travel to Azerbaijan and the Liv Bona Arena, Baku on Tuesday evening to round off the double header. Tickets for Dens Park are still available here, while Scotland Supporters Club (SSC) members go free.

Scotland kicked off this campaign with a tough double header, travelling first to Czechia and the City Stadium before returning to face a talented Portugal side at Fir Park, Motherwell.

While the side suffered back-to-back defeats, there were positives to take as a new group was brought together.

Of the last group of Under-21s, a vast number having already gone on to represent the full squad, with Cieran Slicker, Connor Barron, Max Johnston, Lennon Miller, Ben Doak, Tommy Conway, Josh Doig and Kieron Bowie already all receiving senior honours.

Scotland currently sit bottom of Group B but will be looking to bounce back in this double header.

Team News

Scot Gemmill has a full squad to select from, with no call-offs from the squad named early last week.

Kyle Ure makes the step up to the Under-21 set-up for the first time after an impressive start to the season as he has secured a spot in midfield on loan from Celtic in Scott Brown’s Ayr United title-chasing Championship side.

He is joined by a former Celtic youth teammate in Lenny Agbaire, who makes his return to the international set-up for the first time since March in search of his second cap.

Hibernian youngster Rudi Molotnikov will be looking to add to his Under-19 and Under-17 appearances as he makes the step into the Under-21 squad after recovering from an early season injury.

Pre-match thoughts

After overcoming a serious knee injury that led to an almost two-year absence from the international set-up, Ben McPherson is back in the squad and flying domestically at Partick Thistle.

He caught up with us ahead of this camp to chat about his return to the fold, getting back on the field and his thoughts ahead of Gibraltar and Azerbaijan.

He said: “It’s been great to be playing regularly, and it’s been good so far at Thistle. The manager Mark Wilson and the assistant Alex Rae have been really good for me and it’s important to be getting lots of 90 minutes. The results have been good too so you can’t ask for much more.”

"I was with the Under-21s at the start of the last campaign and we got some really good results then I got my knee injury in March, so I missed the second-half of the campaign.

I’ve been back for around six or seven months now and it was really tough at times but I feel really fit and really good so hopefully we can have a good campaign this time.”

"Hopefully, we'll have more of the ball in these two games and we can stamp our authority on the games, but we won’t be complacent.

We just need to stick to the basics and hopefully results will take care of themselves."
