Scotland women internationals were the star attraction at a girls’ festival run by Gairtcairn Football Academy recently.

Over 200 girls from the Airdrie and Coatbridge area turned out to see players Leanne Ross, Jane Ross, Emma Fernon and Rhonda Jones impart their knowledge on how to make it in the game.

Organised by the Scottish FA and North Lanarkshire Active Schools, the ‘school to club’ festival was aimed at sparking interest in the women’s game.

Robert McCallum, of Gartcairn Football Academy said:  “It was fantastic to see so many girls attending and our wish is for all girls who wish to play football to come along and join our club.

“I would like to say a massive thank you to Scotland Internationals Leanne Ross, Jane Ross, Rhonda Jones and Emma Fernon for helping us run our event. I am sure they have inspired a lot of girls to play football today.”
