UEFA EURO 2024 qualifier
Scotland v Georgia
Tuesday, 20 June 2023 (kick-off 7.45pm)
Hampden Park, Glasgow

Following a sensational night in Norway at the weekend, Scotland are ready to face the next test in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualification campaign against Georgia.

Steve Clarke’s men go into the fourth match of the qualifiers with three wins from three and sitting top of Group A. Scotland opened the campaign in March with a 3-0 win over Cyprus, followed by a 2-0 victory over Spain.

With six points in the bag, they travelled to Norway which would be the setting for a gritty, hard-earned win. It was a fight to the end which culminated in a stunning late comeback after going 1-0 behind early in the second half. Lyndon Dykes grabbed the leveller on 87 minutes, followed by the winning goal two minutes later courtesy of Kenny McLean – Scotland fans heading home rapturous following the sizzling encounter in Oslo.

Georgia go into Tuesday’s match after securing a 2-1 win over Cyprus at the weekend and sit second in the table on four points. They drew 1-1 with Norway in March.

Pre-Match Thoughts

Scotland Head Coach, Steve Clarke: “We spoke after the March camp about capitalising on the win against Spain. We managed to do that, albeit late on against Norway. We bring a feel-good factor on the back of those two results, but we know football has a habit of biting you.

“It’s something we’ve been working on over the last three or four years, since I’ve been in the job. We’ve tried to build the togetherness of the group, we’ve tried to build the ones that we’re picking regularly, the core of the group, to drive those standards and obviously when you are getting good results, everything feels good.

“But we understand that if you take your eye off the ball, you can be punished.”

Scotland defender, Aaron Hickey: "It boosts your confidence, going away and playing against the likes of Haaland and Odegaard. We all just believe in ourselves as a team. We all work hard together. We're growing as a team.

"We know as a team that we just have to get the job done. We have got to stay humble and we've got to stay calm.”
