Team News

Steve Clarke opted to make two changes from the side that saw off Armenia 2-0 at Hampden, with Grant Hanley and Scott McTominay replacing John Souttar and Stuart Armstrong respectively.

As It Happened

The game took a bit of time to settle, with Scotland's first effort of note coming after 12 minutes.

Anthony Ralston did well to outmuscle James McClean on the byline and whip in a great cross that fell to the feet of captain Andy Robertson, whose shot was bravely blocked.

Shortly afterwards, Shane Duffy was short with a pass on the edge of his own box, but John McGinn's shot was smothered by Caoimhin Kelleher.

Ten minutes later and the hosts were ahead.

From a corner, Duffy won the initial header and Browne reacted quicker than anyone else to bundle the ball home.

At the other end, Ralston again looked lively, skipping past two opponents before his drilled cross was headed behind for a corner.

McGinn came close again on 28 minutes, with Duffy again slack from a goal kick, but his shot curled just wide.

It was a decisive moment as the Republic of Ireland doubled their advantage, with 29 minutes on the clock.

Obafemi played a clever ball over the top, with Parrott alert to capitalise and head beyond Craig Gordon.

Clarke looked to shake things up at the interval, with Billy Gilmour introduced for Jack Hendry.

Before a rejigged line-up had the chance to take shape, the home side added a third, with Obafemi thundering in from 25 yards.

Scotland shuffled the pack again on 60 minutes, with Che Adams, Ryan Christie and McGinn withdrawn for Stuart Armstrong, Jacob Brown and Ross Stewart.

Brown warmed Kelleher's palms with a header, as Scott McKenna was replaced by John Souttar.

The Scots battled to try and get a foothold back in the game, but the Irish were well worthy of their win in the end.
