Scotland's second top scorer of all time, Jane Ross, has confirmed her retirement from football.
The 35-year-old has notched up an impressive 151 caps since her debut in 2009 against England, represented her country at two major tournaments and secured her spot as the fourth most capped Scotland player ever.
Of the 62 goals scored by the prolific striker, Ross' header against Albania was one of the most memorable, securing Scotland’s place at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Ross started her club career in 2006 with Glasgow City where she made 118 appearances and scored 104 goals before heading to Sweden for a few seasons with Vittsjo GIK.
The WSL came calling in 2015, with the striker having spells at Manchester City, West Ham United and Manchester United before returning to Scotland to sign for Rangers in 2021.
After battling back from a 17-month spell on the sidelines due to an ACL injury, the forward was recalled into action for the National Team in February 2024 and she would go on to make five more appearances in dark blue before calling time on an immense club and international career this summer.
Fittingly, after scoring a hat-trick in the Women’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen last month, today’s decision means that Ross’ final career match is set to take place back at the National Stadium, when Rangers take on Glasgow City in the Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup Final on Sunday, 25 May.
Reflecting on her career, Jane said: “It’s been such an incredible honour to play for Scotland and the memories that I have throughout the years will be memories that I treasure forever.
"The experiences I've had as a player have been so special, and I couldn't have wished to share it with a better group of people.
“It’s been a true journey full of ups and downs over the last 16 years, but to have played for Scotland 151 times is such a privilege and something I will take great pride in forever.
“I’m so proud of the growth of the game here in Scotland and the evolution of our squad. I’m looking forward to watching our game continue to go from strength to strength and I’ll be cheering the team on to the next major tournament every step of the way.
“And finally, I’d also like to thank the fans for their unwavering support over the years, it’s meant the world.”
SWNT Head Coach, Melissa Andreatta: “What a fantastic career Jane has had, domestically and internationally. An incredible service to club and country and what a legacy to leave behind.
“Jane has given so much to the game and the imprint that she leaves on the Scotland Women’s National Team is undeniable – a true inspiration.
“On behalf of everyone at the Scottish FA, I’d like to thank Jane for everything she’s given us on and off the pitch. We wish her all the very best in the future.”
