Scotland Under-21s face Malta in Ta'qali on Tuesday evening, knowing that three points are required if they are to remain firmly in contention to qualify for next summer's European Championships in Slovakia.

Scotland lost narrowly to Spain on Friday night at Tynecastle but Scot Gemmill's side remain in second in Group B, with 13 points from 7 matches.

Scotland have already defeated Belgium, Hungary, Kazakhstan and Tuesday's opponents, Malta, in the group, with the other point coming in a 0-0 draw against Hungary in Budapest.

Team News

Leon King is the only absentee from the squad who took on Spain on Friday night, with the Rangers defending withdrawing from the squad after suffering a knock.

Scot Gemmill named seven uncapped players in the squad and Dane Murray, Ewan Wilson and Daniel Kelly will be pushing for further involvement after making their debuts on Friday night.

Previous Meetings

Scotland will not be taking Group B's bottom side lightly after very nearly slipping up against Malta in Motherwell last October.

A depleted Scotland dominated the first half but passed up numerous opportunities and could not add to their early goal scored by Alex Lowry.

Lowry had coolly rolled home a penalty but Malta were then awarded a spotkick of their own early in the second half which was dispatched by Andrea Zammit.

A tense half hour then ensued before Kieron Bowie fired home the winner  from an acute angle with ten minutes remaining, after a strong run and shot by Josh Mulligan.

Pre-match Thoughts

We caught up with Daniel Kelly, who reflected on his Under-21s debut and looked ahead to Tuesday's match.

He said: "It's been brilliant to get my first call-up for the Under-21s. Training has been good. There's lots of information to take on board but you've only got a small timeframe to get it in.

"I found out the day of the game at the meeting that I was starting, but obviously you've got an idea already if you're going to be starting or not. It's up there with one of best midfields I have come across. It was a good game, great opposition and the way we set up, I thought, was right and we were unlucky not to stay in the game a bit longer than we did, but it's something to build on going into the next game.

"We'll have a look at how Malta set up and hopefully we can build on Friday and get the three points which will put in a great position in the group."

The full interview with Daniel Kelly will be available to watch on Scotland National Team social channels and will be shown ahead of tomorrow's live match.
