The venue for Scotland Under-21s’ upcoming fixture against San Marino has been confirmed, with St Mirren Park set to stage the first match of the European Championship qualifying campaign.

Scot Gemmill’s youngsters will play in Paisley on 5 September, before the side then travel to Croatia for their second qualification match on 10 September, the venue for which is yet to be confirmed by the Croatian FF.

With no fixtures for the side during the summer months, Gemmill is looking forward to returning to a familiar ground for the team’s first match since their last outing against Sweden in March.

“I am really pleased that our first fixture of this campaign will see us return to St Mirren Park, which has been such an excellent host venue for the side in recent years,” he said.

“The objective every time is to develop our best young players and the correct environment helps us to do that.

“It is a new age group, players born on or after 1 January 1998 and we have shown in the past that we are willing to give opportunities to the younger ones too."

He added: "In the first two competitive games we play teams from Pot Six and Pot One. These are two very different games but both very demanding mentally, tactically and physically so it's a great opportunity for the players to gain more experience playing for their country."

The kick-off time will be confirmed in due course.
