Georgia v Scotland
Wednesday, 15 March 2023 – Kick-off: 12pm
Ainslie Park

The young Scots face Georgia in the final match of this month’s three-game qualifying tournament at Ainslie Park in Edinburgh tomorrow.

The Group B matches have so far seen a convincing 4-nil Scotland victory over Israel last week. Israel subsequently played out a 3-2 win over Georgia at the weekend and in order to top the group, all Scotland have to do in the final match is avoid defeat.

There are no injury concerns ahead of tomorrow’s game, with the exception of Eryn Brown who will be unavailable due to a hamstring issue.

Head Coach Pauline MacDonald: “We are looking to improve on last Thursday’s performance against Israel. We’ve worked a lot on transitional moments as well as our overall attacking play in training this week.

“It’s been a good week and the mood is good in camp. The players are looking forward to getting back out on to the pitch and competing.”

On the challenge expected from Georgia: “We expect to dominate possession as we did against Israel, but we think they’ll come at us and we need to be prepared for that. Georgia like a physical battle, they have a good work ethic and they’re tenacious out of possession.”

A draw against Georgia would ensure Scotland finish this round of qualifiers at the top of Group ‘B’ and gain promotion, MacDonald says from a coaching perspective that’s the ultimate aim: “It’s imperative to the development of our best young players that we get exposure to the best teams in Europe.

“That is why we’re determined to top this group and get promotion back into the ‘A’ category.”

If you’re heading to Ainslie Park to support the young team, entry to the game is free.

The match will also be broadcast on Scotland NT channels with key in-game updates available on social media.
